CLASS REUNION PLANS FOR 2013
Dear Classmate,
The 50th Reunion Committee has completed the plans for our reunion which will be held Friday Oct. 4 and Saturday Oct. 5. You do not need to pay for anything in advance, but I will need head counts on several things by the deadline given.
Fri. Oct 4 --- attend the RHS Mountie home football game (it may be homecoming). I need a head count by Monday Sept. 2 so we will know how many tickets to reserve
Sat. Oct. 5---9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.—attend the RHS All School Reunion held at the old Kirksey Gym . This is an opportunity for alumni of the classes from 1949 – 1969 to meet informally and just visit. There are groups of tables each shared by two classes. Since we are the 50th reunion class this year, we get a table for ourselves. The cost is $3 (money goes to pay the janitors). If your spouse did not attend the old RHS, they do not pay.
Optional activity
Sat. Oct. 5 – 12:30 p.m.- 4:00—eat lunch and tour Crystal Bridges Art Museum in Bentonville. It was founded by WalMart heiress, Alice Walton. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a nationally recognized premier art institution. It houses a permanent collection of American masterworks. It opened in 2011. There is no charge to tour the museum thanks to WalMart.
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.—eat lunch—I checked the lunch menu when Bill & I were there to see the visiting Norman Rockwell exhibit. It was: Beans & Cornbread $3/$5; Caesar Salad $4/$8; Harvest Salad $8; Chicken Salad $9.50; Shrimp & Grits $13; Vietnamese Banh Ni Sandwich $10; Hamburger $10.50
I need a head count by Monday Sept. 2 so we will know how many tables we will need to reserve. If this lunch does not fit into your budget, then you could meet us at 1:30 for just the tour.
5:30 p.m. --- 9:00 p.m. Eat dinner at the Corona Restaurant (it used to be the Prairie Creek Hickory House). We will eat dinner at 6:30. Clifton Eoff, a professional photographer, takes pictures of each class at the All School Reunion. I have lined him up to also take a picture of our class at the Corona Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. He will email the photos and prices for everyone who has signed up and given an email address. He gets paid only for those photos sold.
You will have the choice of four menu items. I need a head count of each menu option so Corona can be sure to have enough food available for each option. The deadline for head counts for each food option is Monday Sept. 2. Food options are: $7.95 beef enchiladas served with rice & beans; $8.95 roasted chicken (1/2 chicken) served with baked potato, green beans & salad; $13.95 fried shrimp served with baked potato, green beans & salad; $15.95 prime rib served with baked potato, green beans & salad
For those coming from out of town, we have obtained a special motel rate of $79 per night at the Hyatt Place Motel on West Walnut just behind IHOP and just off Exit 85 of I-540 if we have as many as 10 rooms reserved. I need a head count of those who will be staying at the Hyatt Place by Monday Sept.2 so I can tell them how many rooms to block off for us. You will make your own reservations. Later I will be given a special code that you will need to give when you make your reservation. Hyatt Place will fix us turkey wraps, potato chips, & cookies before the Friday football game. The price will depend on how many are staying at the motel. The more we have, the cheaper the meal will be.
The committee has worked hard to plan this reunion. We hope we have planned some activities that you will want to attend and visit with your former classmates. The members of the reunion committee who have helped me are Peggy Fletcher Brown, Monica Woodruff Bray, Joe Huber, Joyce Martfield Barthman, Charles Mary Phillippy, Doris Jean Laney Grigg, Richard Bland, Nicky Nicholas and Bill White. We hope to see you in October. Bring pictures of children and grandchildren. Peggy and Nancy Gibson Ivy are planning a memorial activity to honor those classmates who have past away. Hope to see you in October.
Sincerely,
Dixie David White
